All About Me
Deirdre Holliday-White
Flavor Garden is your one-stop-shop for gourmet food essentials, beginner culinary instruction and food safety courses and training. After, I graduated from culinary school, my mother was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was having a hard time eating and keeping up her weight while undergoing chemotherapy. She would not eat because everything tasted like metal. So, while worrying about her I starting cooking meals for her that gave her some flavor but NO salt. While doing that my family thought it would be a great idea to share my spice blends with the rest of the world. And so the business was born! I sell flavored unsalted butter, spices, rubs and sauces (most salt FREE). As the business was growing, I lost my husband in a car accident and left me really questioning everything in my life. So while I was depressed and searching for answers, my son Donovan, wanted me to teach him how to cook. He told me he wanted to be a “cooker” like his mommy. That got me inspired and I started teaching small cooking classes to my friends and family. I was already a certified chef and certified to administer the Food Safety Managers test so I decided to add that part to the business. I have been trying and trying to get everything with the business set up and professional. Now after many years and set-backs I introduce to you…Flavor Garden (Grand Opening March, 2017). In the future, I would love to and have a couple of food trucks and open a small café. I want to leave a legacy for my son.
I love cooking and experimenting with everything. I love to take things like chicken, fish or vegetables and give them a flavor that would not be the norm. I really love the educational side of food and teaching people that everyone has a little “chef” in them.
February, 2018, I opened Flavor Garden Snack Bar located in Laurel, MD. It features sandwiches, hot dogs, smoked sausages, chicken wings, funnel cakes and more. Most of the items are inspired and feature Flavor Garden products in the ingredients. Unfortunately, I had to close the snack bar. Then as you guessed it COVID reared its ugly head and gave me yet another set-back.
June 2022, I got another chance to see Flavor Garden rise. I opened a restaurant and bar located on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC. I am excited to introduce you to new spice blends as well as new menu items. Come by and say hello!
